When you think of me

I want you to imagine a sandcastle

standing tall at the edge of the sea

yet the oceans currents can

shape its form

within minutes

but the elements are there

to create something new

every hour.

When you think of me

I want you to imagine plasticine

and the way it feels

between your fingers

when you mix two colours together

watching a colour be born

that cannot be

undone.

When you think of me

I want you to imagine a doll

that you struggle to put

the right clothing on

where nothing sits right

on their shoulders

or their legs

or their face

or their form.

When you see me

I want to confuse you

I want to alarm you

I want to surprise

intrigue

draw you in

as I dance around you

between the swirling colours and shapes

of the man and woman

within my body

where the softness of my skin

changes in the light

and where the sound of my voice

goes from a sweet to salty taste.

You'll miss it

if you blink.
