Unable to decide your next lunch spot on campus? Dougal Tsakalos-Stewart has got you covered with his review of 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle!
If you're sick of the pre-wrapped sandwiches from Soul Origin or the greasy yet delicious burgers from Lashings and want something warm and hearty, 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle has got you covered. Located in the courtyard strip next to Monster Sushi, it has a range of menu items for whatever you want.
Their classic beef noodle soup that they make in house is what stimulated the senses for me. The soft yet supple beef broth paired well with the thick and creamy noodles that are cut to your liking and size. While my white self was unable to hack the chilli resulting in me removing it before my order, the vegetables paired beautifully with it. The radish was cut perfectly thin and the flavour combination was superb. The coriander and shallots were great to have a little buzz on my tongue paired with some noodles or a slice of beef.
The house soup is one of the most delectable and warm meals I've tried. It's hearty, a solid healthy option, and really warms you up everywhere. If you're looking for something different though, the pan fried dumplings are nice and hot and the perfect balance of soft and crispy. If you're not a fan of broths but love an Asian bowl, they do offer chicken and pork noodle bowls. Plenty of spicy options and tasty sides lie among the menu as well, with hot spicy beef noodle soup, pickled cabbage and seaweed salad.
If you're a fan of Asian food, no higher recommendation from me (keep in mind, I am a white man) is possible. Lovely soups and hearty food, as well as kind workers and an easy ordering online format.
