Macquarie Student Yvone Inall shares the monstrously bewitching details about the upcoming and unmissable on-campus Halloween event

Once again, the Gale History Museum comes to the party with a signature event for Halloween. For the past few years, the spooky season has been an opportunity for Macquarie students to come together with the community to celebrate the spookier side of museum life. Our theme this year is Monstrous! And we’ll be exploring aspects of monstrosity in fun and creative ways. What makes a monster? What does it mean to be monstrous? And how do monsters enforce, challenge and subvert social norms?

This year, we're creating space for maximum creativity. There will be displays with performances that bring to life interactions between objects, myth and storytelling. From the fantastical encounters of the Odyssey to journeys into the Underworld, there are many rich tales to tell.

Guests will be invited to construct their own monsters and add them to our Monstrous collage.

We'll have an opportunity to play in a bespoke, role-playing game (‘RPG’) based session developed by students and staff at Macquarie.

What: Museum After Dark: Monstrous!

When: Thursday 29 October 2026, 5pm to 8pm

Where: The Gale History Museum at Macquarie University, G04 25C Wally’s Walk, Macquarie University

Dress Code: Halloween costumes are encouraged but not essential. We often have people attending our Halloween event in costume. Bring on Monstrous Fashion!

Creative Arts Competition: As Halloween draws closer, we’ll be launching a creative arts competition, offering a cash prize to the winner. So, start thinking creatively about monsters for your chance to win. Watch this space for a full reveal when the details are ready.
