Editorial Assistant Alicja Krotofil reports on the fatal public shooting of a Minnesotan woman by an ICE agent in the US in a widely disputed self-defence action
On 7 January 2026, Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a raid in Minneapolis, Minnesota [1]. On Wednesday morning, Good parked her car across the road, blocking a convoy of roughly seven ICE vehicles [2]. Eyewitness Emily Heller watched the event unfold from her lawn, drawn out by ICE whistles. Heller states, “When they see them [ICE raids] happening, people blow whistles to alert the community” [2]. Heller reports that the ICE agents were visibly aggravated by the presence of Good’s vehicle, and after they tried to open her front door she was spooked and attempted to drive away. At this moment “an officer approached her and… got in front of her vehicle and then leaned across the hood of her car and shot her point blank in the face” [2]. Heller reports hearing four shots being fired. A local woman mentioned that Good, alongside her husband and son, had moved into the area in December 2024 [4]. Reports show she had two more children, living in other states.
Aside from eyewitness accounts, several organisations have already made public announcements in response. As of right now, the following information has been confirmed.

Renee Nicole Good was a US citizen and not a target of immigration arrest. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made a public announcement that the ICE agent acted in self-defence as Good was attempting to run him over with her car [1]. US President Donald Trump commented similarly; “it is hard to believe he [the ICE agent] is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital… The radical left is threatening and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis” [3].
The Minneapolis community has expressed widespread outrage, with streets filled with protestors since the shooting. Moreover, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued a statement saying that “this was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying” [1]. The community reports feeling threatened by the presence of ICE agents in their city, to an extent that all schools will be closed for the rest of the school week due to safety concerns. The shooting is being investigated by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau
of Criminal Apprehension [1].
