Editorial Assistant Ahmad Aaram covers Real Madrid’s devastating loss to Arsenal.

On 16 April 2025, Real Madrid went toe-to-toe with Arsenal in a desperate attempt to stage a glorious comeback after their 0–3 defeat in the first leg of the quarterfinals at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. However, the hopes of the Madridistas were crushed as the team failed to deliver, suffering a 1–2 loss on home ground.

Expectations were high for Real Madrid, the fifteen-time UEFA Champions League winners, renowned for their incredible comebacks in recent years. But the result of last week’s quarterfinal left fans disappointed.

Thibaut Courtois managed to save a penalty from Bukayo Saka, but in the second half, Saka redeemed himself by scoring a goal. The match grew intense when Vinícius Júnior pulled one back for Madrid, but in the final minutes, Mikel Merino sealed the victory for Arsenal by converting a one-on-one chance.
