Why Astrology Is The Answer To Revolutions

Editorial Assistant Elizabete Lasmane ponders the link between the stars, the planets, and the anarchy of revolution.

Have you ever wondered what the correlation is between Lenin and Pluto in Cancer? No? What about the connection between the beheading of Louis XVI and Uranus in Leo? Also no? Yeah, me neither… but what if I told you that the correlation between historical events and astrology actually exists!? Sounds silly, I know… but let me show you how astrology can unveil the understory of two of the greatest revolutions!
The two greatest revolutions that I’m referring to are the French, oui oui (1789-1799)[1], and the Russian (1917).[2] Both revolutions brought crucial transformations that changed the norms of the societies we live in today. “Duuh, but how is astrology related here?” you’re asking me. The answer lies in two mighty planets: Pluto and Uranus. Yes, Uranus. Nothing funny here. Now, why these two planets?
Pluto and Uranus are the planets that are considered “slow” in astrology. Now, stay with me here for a couple of minutes while I explain the strange and difficult stuff. It gets interesting, I promise. Each planet has a stage called “Transit”.[3] It means that a specific planet has entered a specific Zodiac sign! Just like the Sun!
For instance, during April, the Sun enters Aries, in May, the Sun enters Taurus, and so on. This is why if you are born in May, then, most likely, you are a Taurus (or if it is the end of May, then you are a Gemini). This way, each year, the Sun “visits” all twelve zodiac signs (not thirteen). Therefore, the Sun’s cycle takes one year to go “around” every zodiac sign, thus, it is considered a “fast planet”. But Uranus and Pluto take waaaay longer, and, consequently, when these planets “visit” signs, we mortals feel it waaaay deeper than when the Sun visits signs. We feel it collectively and globally.
Now, let’s talk numbers: Pluto’s cycle takes 248.4 years, so the planet stays in each zodiac sign approximately every 20.7 years (some signs take longer, some faster). Uranus stays for seven years in one sign. So, in basic terms, when these two planets change signs, a new period and a new era comes, old systems break, and global, worldwide transformations happen.[3]
But, each planet also represents specific themes: Pluto is all about transformations, crises, a matter of death and life, sex, esoterics, finances, politics, and power. Uranus—information, liberation, freedom, originality, novelty, technology. But, to complete the image, we require the zodiac signs that the planets are currently “visiting”. To give an example, when Pluto (a planet of transformations and power) enters Taurus (sign of finance, self values, aesthetics, pleasure), then we might expect huge transformations around these themes and possible “tough times” with money. Or when Uranus transits in Libra (sign of diplomacy, relationships, matrimony, and partners), it would give us a period where innovation and re-evaluation around relationships and diplomacy becomes more prominent.
Phew, we are done with the technical stuff. Now, let’s uncover what happened during the revolutions in an astrological sense; we might as well put this knowledge to use!

During the Russian Revolution in 1917, Pluto entered Cancer, and Uranus entered Aquarius.[4] When Pluto—the planet of transformation and rebirth—enters the sign of family and homeland, significant, brutal changes happen around the family. What does it mean for the Russian Revolution? Well… during the Revolution, the Russian Imperial family Romanov was overthrown, thus transforming the ruling system from monarchy to the well-known USSR.[2]
But Uranus? Uranus in Aquarius also played a role—a crucial one. Uranus, the planet of liberation and freedom, combined with Aquarius, the sign that also covers the themes of rebellion, social reforms, and originality (yes, there is a link between Uranus and Aquarius), caused a period when revolutionary ideas and collective consciousness are heightened. FYI, Pluto or Uranus in Aquarius is ideal for having social reforms and reviewing societal norms.
Now, it is very evident how a push for radical societal transformation in the domain of family aligned perfectly with what was happening in the sky and on the earth in 1917.
The French Revolution, ah oui, La Révolution française! From 1789 to 1799,[1] Pluto was in Aquarius (and stayed there until the very end of the Revolution), while Uranus was in Leo.[4] Uranus (the planet of freedom, rebellion) in combination with Leo (self-expression, ego, art) reflects a period where dramatic self-expression, revolutionary shifts in leadership, and cultural identity get heated. So, a revolution in the most cultural, art-filled country: France!
Pluto, oh Pluto… This is where everything gets interesting. The French Revolution was the last time Pluto was in Aquarius (since Pluto’s cycle takes almost two and a half centuries). But in November of 2024, Pluto entered Aquarius again,[4] destined to stay there for at least two decades. This has to tell us at least something… But it did tell something to the French back in 1789! “What?” you ask me. To overthrow the government, of course! Pluto, yes, the transformation planet, combined with rebellious and revolutionary Aquarius, is the perfect duo when it comes to the energies of revolutions! It’s the time when people say, “That’s enough; we have to change something!” and Pluto’s there at their service.
Whenever there is nonsense happening on earth, I like to reassure myself by seeing that this nonsense “came” from the sky; thus, it’s all cyclical, and it makes living easier.
